Interdigital Cysts
Interdigital Cysts are common in most breeds of dogs, including bulldogs. These cysts will occur between the toes,
and can occur in more than one foot.
No one really knows what causes them, but ingrown hairs and allergies seem
to be at the top of the list. From personal experience if your dog is prone to cysts,
I have tried everything there is to try
and more ! You may have to try one or more of these ideas and see which one works the best for you.
- foot soaks with "Epsom salts " and warm water. Epsom salts will bring the cyst to a head so that it will drain.
- Apply diaper rash ointment to the bottoms of the feet, in between all the toes – diaper rash ointment keeps moisture out and kills yeast, which is a common problem in bulldogs.
- Apply benzoyl peroxide to the bottoms of the feet – yes benzoyl peroxide, the same stuff used for acne in people. It helps make all the blackheads and whiteheads come up so you can pop them. Benzoyl peroxide comes in a cream.
- Use stridex pads - I buy the generic pads ( salicylic acid ) and use them to clean between all the toes and the bottoms of the feet everyday. I have had the best luck with using the pads to keep the cyst from coming up all the time.
but I have found that they will always come back. It is not a good idea to have your bulldog on antibiotics all the time
because another cyst has come up. Trying to prevent them is the best thing to do.
